5 kW Wind Turbine, $29,950 including pole, inverter, controller, and wires.

5 kilo Watt Wind Turbine

The 5 Kw wind turbine is a great energy producer, and will handle energy needs for a mid-size or smaller home, or a small business or office. We love this unit, because the power production curve soars as wind speeds increase.

In the best of conditions, the unit is rated to produce 5 kW of energy per hour, for 24 hours, or 120 kw per day. That would mean production of about $6048 per year or $504 per month (at 14 cents per kWh average rate). But, production will vary with location, cost per kw and winds. Typically in average wind areas we believe this turbine should produce a range of $290 to $450 per month. That is more than enough to handle most middle class homes in the USA! Most homes in the USA use from 60 to 80 kW per day. This unit can keep your bills low or even zero!

Assuming your average speed is not high enough, then even at 60% of rated power, the unit will produce 72 kW per day. We highly recommend this unit for a home. Talk about a "Leeds" benefit, this unit reduces your carbon imprint significantly.

For new units, we are offering a 5kw-DC including 9 meter (29.5 ft) stand alone tower, galvanized with ladder, platform and hinge (2 x 4.5 mtr), also has 5 kW on grid controller with dump loads, and SMA 6000US WBoy grid tie inverter with U.L. approval. The quoted price is for products, and installation is not included and will need to be bid separately after on site inspection.

If you want a heavy duty pole, with "hydraulic lift" connections, the price is $5,000 more.

Warranty: Generator, 3 years mfg warranty, Controller 1 year warranty, SMA windy boy 5 years. Used units carry no warranty.

There is a display on the inverter "box" that shows what the turbine is producing "in real time".

If you have a wind meter on the surface showing an average wind speed of 16 MPH, the average wind speed at 30, 40 or 50 feet high will be much higher. (Remember the kites you used to fly when a kid. The hard part was getting the kite high enough to "catch" the faster winds.) For this unit, we suggest and provide a 27 foot tall pole. But if you use a higher pole, your wind speeds will improve but a taller pole is more expensive.

Our "hands on" experience with this unit in our location has indicated that it actually will produce higher than rated power, up to 6 kWh if turned into the wind. The blades are so well designed they literally "fly" through the wind, are absolutely quiet, and the monopole does not rattle or vibrate like a lattice tower. This unit is powerful enough to do a great job! It will reduce your electric bill, and if you use net metering, will spin your electric meter backward. In a good wind area, it will pay for itself in about 5 to 7 years. (Some calculations show a payback of 4.7 years), this all depends on how high your utility rate is and wind speeds. If you calculate the tax benefits, ITC, and depreciation benefits, it can even reach payback sooner. The higher your electric rate the faster your payback, because YOU are the producer!

Another feature is that some power company bill plans charge...
